the work that I’d like to share with you is an investigation into the use of digital tools within cottage industry ceramics production. I spent 6 weeks primarily focused on slipcasting in conjunction with 3d modeling tools, cnc mills, laser cutters and 3d printing. about my studio start-up, port rhombus design:

my independent product design studio is invested in natural materials and functional beauty in addition to responsible and democratic design.

my studio operates at the intersection of art/craft/design and manufacturing. a key focus of my studio practice is the marriage of craft practices and digital tools. I strive to offer unique, fresh and artful designs at prices affordable to anyone. I prefer natural materials which are ethically/locally sourced and want to produce items that will sustain the test of time both in construction and form. I’m most excited about what I do because the affordability of home manufacturing tools has created an environment where cottage industry producers can compete with larger companies who are not as innovative or responsible in their practices and for the potential this creates to make a difference in peoples’ lives as well as the greater dialog of design.
