‘solstice jewelry collection’ by laura rodriguez

a recurrent theme is the end of the world. but is it really going to be over? due to their knowledge in many of the sciences, the mayans created a calendar of 365 days, which began before the christian era and concludes this year, on december 21st, coinciding with the winter solstice. this does not mean that our planet or human civilization will die, but rather indicate the completion of one cycle and the beginning of a new one. as a result, mexican designer laura rodriguez has created jewels to commemorate this event and, in this way, represents the beginning of a new phase in everyone´s life. influenced by archaeological sites, such as uxmal and chichen itza,  which are fundamental to mayan culture, the collection approaches the construction in a way that considers the historic symbolism and beauty. hand-made using sterling silver from mexico, the tzompantli earrings and ring reference mayan  sacrifice to honor the gods, meaning a ritual to be grateful for the gifts of every day’s life.
