| coin street, south bank, london SE 1 - haworth tompkins haworth tompkins was formed in 1991, the architectural practice is based in london. they have has designed buildings in urban, rural and coastal locations in the british isles and beyond, for clients in the public sector, the financial services sector, manufacturing industry and the arts, as well as for private individuals. the young team is multi-skilled in design, technical drawing and job running abilities. http://www.haworthtompkins.com the coin street project is a perfect example for good afordable housing. designboom appreciated it very much. housing runs along upper ground and two quieter side streets. with the training centre to the south, the development forms a secure enclosure around communal gardens safe for children to play in. the garden-facing elevations, with their front gardens and planted balconies, allow individuality, but the design is unified by a continuous timber and steel screen. balconies, trellises and louvred timber sun shades are provided for all houses. completion 2000 coin street housing has been awarded british housing design awards. more affordable housing : --- michael aukett architects tesco/notting hill housing trust --- --- and bdp architects hampden gurney school --- --- back to the main page --- ------- monthly designboom newsletter ------- ------- ? comments and contact us ? ------- |
