the twelve-week exhibition focuses on the key factors facing large scale
metropolitan areas around the world:
from migration to mobility, from social integration to sustainable growth.
it examines the role of architects and architecture in constructing democratic
and sustainable urban environments, and their links to policymaking,
governance and social cohesion.
a manifesto for cities of the 21st century and their potential to contribute to
a more sustainable, democratic and equitable world.

covering over 6,000 square meters, the venice biennale is the largest
architecture exhibition in the world.
it takes place in the corderie building (arsenale), throughout the biennale
gardens (giardini) and in a few additional spots in the city.

the arsenal of venice (arsenale di venezia) occupies a large area of the sestiere di castello in venice.
for the duration of this years biennale it provided the setting for a number of events.
