the federal art commission of switzerland invited the architect
bernard tschumi to represent switzerland at their pavillion.
the installation shows the ‘elliptic city: the independant financial
center of the americas’ project.

tschumi takes a concrete project whose realisation is planned
on a caribbean island as the basis to show how he creates his
architectonic solutions. the architect explores the real and mythical
conditions he encounters on this island. completely unexpectedly,
nature and finance are interlinked in his project. rather than a strict
plan, the architect proposes a flexible landscape of buildings
and gardens suitable for a widerange of activities, from business
centre to hotel and from tourist facilities to shoppingmall.

epiliptic city is a project that shows various architectural
proposals under the following themes: carribean, small city wanted,
global Vs local,concept-form, challenge, the elipses, orbits and meshes,
frames: inside - out, identifiers and the game.
