wearable technology company alivecor plans to deliver a medical-grade electrocardiogram (EKG) band for the apple watch. the ‘kardia’ represents a significant breakthrough in proactive heart health by allowing people to discretely track their vitals.

users can record by touching the band’s integrated sensor that communicates with the smartwatch app. together with automated algorithms, ‘kardia’ can instantly detect atrial fibrillation in an EKG, the most common cardiac arryhthmia and a leading cause of a stroke. the accessory also indicates whether a user’s heart rate and rhythm are normal.
