BMW 7 series redefines luxury with modern styling and technologies

announcing their new flagship model in munich on june 10th 2015, designboom were ahead of the rest, gaining a sneak preview of the sixth generation BMW ‘7 series’ in early may 2015. at the exclusive event, the BMW designers, who all influenced the new development, were able to outline and highlight the car’s new styling, features and technologies in great detail.

BMW has redefined what an exclusive, luxurious driving experience looks like in a contemporary and pioneering form. this starts with its dominant, elegant front that features precise lines on its strongly controlled surface. this adds stylistic confidence, a motion that is emulated throughout the car, assured dynamics and sophistication. its large and powerful presence builds upon its front and continues with its fluid roof lines and the side’s ‘L’ shaped body feature.

on the inside, the vehicle offers a generous amount of space, which is accentuated by its horizontal surfaces and lines. with the optional executive lounge, the passenger’s comfort is redefined, featuring electrically adjustable seats with massage functions and active ventilation for all. furthermore, it includes a rear console and entertainment experience with BMW touch command. as well, the sky lounge panorama glass roof displays a starry sky when dark, as the lights shine directly on to it. all of this, and the fusion of exquisite materials and precise craftsmanship, creates an interior that offers new levels of well-being.

continuing with the interior, the idrive operating system’s monitor comes as a touch screen display for the first time. this enables customers to operate it in the same way as their modern electronic devices. furthermore, and as another first, the system can be governed using BMW gesture control, which allows hand movements to be recognized by a 3D sensor control. this intuitive and user-friendly function can control the volume in audio applications and can accept or reject phone calls.

in terms of adding comfort, developments with the chassis have enabled even more to be added. called BMW efficientlightweight, the advanced technologies helps to reduce the weight of the model by up to 130kg. it uses a body structure with a carbon core, increasing strength and rigidity. the sophisticated, precision-honed chassis technology and additional control systems enhance both the dynamics of the new BMW 7 series and its ride quality.

with a lighter weight, the performance of the sixth generation ‘7 series’ has been improved and made more dynamic. it features extensively updated V8 engines and six-cylinder in-line variants that drive through the eight-speed steptronic transmission. this offers a power range of 265 hp to 450 hp, a top speed of 155 mph, and with the xdrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, it operates more effectively. as well, the plug-in hybrid BMW 740e is available, and is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, which together generate total system output of 326 hp.
