first announced in 2012, BMW is now expanding the model of its compact electric car ‘i3’ with a significantly increased battery capacity. the latest edition has a capacity of 33 kilowatt hours thanks to the higher storage density of the lithium ion cells. not changing the size of the car, the battery dimensions remain unchanged with over 100% range increase which equals 300 kilometers instead of 150 kilometers. even in everyday use, in bad weather conditions and with the air conditioning or heating turned on, 200 kilometers of range can still be achieved on one full battery charge. best part – BMW owners with older ‘i3’ models will be offered the more powerful battery through a special retrofit program, which is made possible thanks to the modular and flexible design of the BMW ‘i3’ electric vehicle.
