the bugatti ‘veyron grand sport vitesse’ is the fastest road convertible yet produced

debuted at geneva motor show 2012, the ‘veyron grand sport vitesse’ by bugatti is the world’s fastest road convertible yet produced. the vehicle is the roadster version of the ‘veyron super sport’, with a quad-turbocharged W16 engine and 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

with a top speed of 255mph (410km/hr, although it is electronically limited to use at 233mph besides for closed circuit runs), the car accelerates from 0-60mph (0-100km/hr) in 2.6 seconds; to 124mph (200km/hr) in 7.1 seconds; and to 186mph (300km/hr) in 16 seconds, from which it can brake completely in 7.9 seconds. the car produces 1500Nm of torque.

to improve performance, the ‘veyron vitesse’ features a redesigned roof spoiler, as well as a removable windbreak (storeable in the luggage compartment when not in use). the vehicles were designed for customizability, with a range of colours and finishes already on exhibition in geneva. in particular bugatti uses coloured carbon fiber cloth on the interior, offering a slight gleam in certain light.

three suspension heights include ‘standard’ (for town and city traffic, up to speeds of 111mph (189km/hr)); ‘handling’ for open road performance; and ‘top speed’, which closes the front diffuser flaps to improve aerodynamics and is designed for use at speeds greater than 233mph (375km/hr).

across all modes, the car’s combined cycle fuel consumption is 10.18mpg (23.1L / 100km), with a city efficiency of 6mpg (37.2 L / 100km).
