debuting at beijing motor show, this all-electric sedan is the first offering by newly formed chinese joint venture denza

the debut offering from the new chinese car brand denza, a collaboration between BYD and daimler, is an all-electric sedan in the so-called ‘new energy vehicle’ (‘NEV’*) segment, planned for 2013 production in china. powered by a lithium-ion battery, the concept model is on exhibition at the 2012 beijing motor show.

technical specs on the vehicle have yet to be released, although the car is expected to use drivetrain components from BYD’s existing e6 model, which reportedly attains about 186 miles per charge.

* – note that in the USA, ‘NEV’ stands more commonly for ‘neighborhood electric vehicle’, a special class of electric vehicles legally limited to use in low-speed-limit areas.

denza notes that the chrome exterior can be illuminated for safety.

the new company itself is named after 腾势 (téng shì), which together are translated as ‘rising power and momentum’. the waterdrop shape of the logo suggests its environmental friendly nature, as the denza company will be devoted to the production of exclusively new energy vehicles, combining the expertise of BYD’s hybrid and electronic automotive development with that of daimler in producing reliable cars at relatively low cost.
