plans have been unveiled for an aerial gondola system that would connect brooklyn to manhattan, bringing commuters over the river in just three and a half minutes. seeking to find an alternative to packed subway trains making their way to and from the city, the east river skyway is viewed as a relatively inexpensive and quickly deployable solution. it is believed that the scheme could accommodate over 5,000 individuals an hour in both directions.

if the proposal moves forward, the plan is to implement the williamsburg to lower manhattan lines first. subsequent phases would connect DUMBO to the south street seaport, and greenpoint, brooklyn; and long island city, queens, to roosevelt island where it would meet up with the existing tramway system. brooklyn to manhattan will be a short scenic ride of 3.5 minutes, with traveling from brooklyn to queens would be a 3 to 12 minute commute depending on your destination.
