estimote first enhanced consumer possibilities with their beacon technology and have now introduced the nearables ‘stickers’ that further user experience with unlimited capabilities. the beacons add layers of contextual intelligence to static locations such as stores, museums and airports, by broadcasting radio signals to display messages like coupons on customers’ smartphones. the ‘stickers’ extend this context to the objects within those areas by containing accelerometers and temperature monitors to show data about its situation, motion and climate. these objects are called nearables and the possibilities of these include, but not limited to; automatically displaying reviews of the bestselling book you just picked up, what style options are available and what purse matches best with the jacket you just tried on, and even lets you know when the bottle of chardonnay has reached the right condition in your fridge.

these intelligent sensors can be classified to different object types such as interaction, motion and ownership in order to specialize the analyzed data. this is all linked by the beacons to the cloud and enables shop managers to recognize what items are most popular and notifies people if they have left a possession at the restaurant. during development, beta partners for the estimote ‘stickers’ included cisco, IDEO, the guggenheim museum, adobe’s behance, prolific interactive and robin.
