after receiving FDA approval to be legally transplanted in patients, the second sight 'argus II' artificial retina will finally
allow the blind to partially see again through bionic eyes. although the system doesn't fully restore vision, it allows people
with a certain type of blindness to detect crosswalks on the street, the presence of people or cars, and sometimes even
large numbers or letters.

implanted into the users eye, the artificial retina consists of a sheet of electrodes, which work in conjunction with an
attached camera and a portable video processor - bypassing visual signals from the damaged portion of the retina,
and transmitting them as pixelized patterns of light and dark to the brain.
