volvo has demonstrated how easy it is to steer their 15 ton ‘volvo FMX’ truck equipped with the company’s new dynamic steering system — by letting a hamster guide a heavy-duty transporter up the side of an open-pit mine. the video is filmed in los tres cunados in northwestern spain – a steep quarry that’s infamous for its challenging driving conditions. with ‘volvo dynamic steering’, an electric motor replaces the driver’s muscle power, making it possible for even a 175 gram small house pet to steer the cargo vehicle. ‘at low speeds, a heavily laden vehicle is so easy to manoeuvre that it can be steered with just one finger. when driving on the highway, this dynamic steering system offers unbeatable directional stability,’ explains jan-inge svensson, the engineer behind the development of the system’s software at volvo trucks. to see the action stunt, check out the video below!
