the ‘hendo‘ hoverboard defies gravity to provide a smooth ride whilst floating one inch off the ground. using four disc-shaped hover engines, a special magnetic field pushes against itself to generate the lift which levitates the board off the floor. it is intended for self-propelling but the actions which stabilize it can also be used to drive it forward – by alternating the projection forces. the result is an effortless glide that seamlessly integrates with the rider’s natural movements.

the ‘hendo’ finds a method around earnshaw’s theorem that a stable static equilibrium between two magnets is impossible. it does this in a feasible way by implementing lenz’s law which theorizes that eddy currents are created when magnets are moved relative to a conductive material. the technology used is called magnetic field architecture and means it requires a special type of non-ferromagnetic surface to work. because of this, a unique hoverpark is being designed so that owners can ride the boards. ‘hendo’ is seeking funding to continue to develop the product and has launched a kickstarter campaign in order to bring hoverboard to the present.
