TAMO racemo: the two-seater sports coupe from TATA motors

tata motors, the indian giant behind jaguar land rover group, unveils its first digitally native, connected driving experience crafted in a two-seater sports coupe. a blend of italian sensuality and indian ingenuity, ‘racemo’ is india’s first globally developed ‘phygital’ car, merging the physical and digital worlds.

as part of its new passenger vehicle strategy, tata motors recently introduced its new sub-brand – tamo, an incubating center of innovation working towards innovative technologies in order to define future mobility solutions. making its world premiere, tamo introduces ‘racemo’, a two-seater, sports coupe that aims to address the challenges driven by discontinuity, and disruption in the automotive industry. meant for the adventure loving, digitally native, and connected community of india, the ‘racemo’ is also india’s first connected car. powered by microsoft, it brings alive connected technologies such as cloud computing, geographical analytics, and an intuitive human-machine interface. 

size-wise the ‘racemo’ is similar to mazda’s ‘MX-5’, and delivers improved engine performance from a compact mid-mounted petrol engine, producing 188 hp of power, and 210 Nm (155 lb.ft) of torque. combining this turbocharged engine with its compact size, it can cover the sprint from 0 – 62 mph (100 km/h) in under six seconds .

stepping through its dihedral door and into the black leather driver’s seat, the ‘racemo’s’ high-tech interior appears to be something out of a video game. the steering wheel’s form is reminiscent of the style found in a jaguar, and it’s surrounded by two red ‘flappy-paddles’ for manual shifting. the high-tech wheel is flanked by three large touch screens, while many interior refinements are exagerrated — from the red fabric door pulls, to the angular dashboard, to the race button style switches.
