![]() WATER CONCEPT - IL SALONE DELL' ARREDO BAGNO --- 'inside the bathroom' competition results --- title: KAKEI # : 1212 andrew tang + philip ruster from the netherlands ![]() designer's own words : KAKEI Faucet. Architects are busy making ecological buildings and filter reservoirs to save, clean and recycle water for new communities. Results of these efforts can be exponentially increased if water usage from the user level be optimized. At least 10 liters of water is used through the water faucet in the bathroom by the average person in Europe everyday, much of which is wasted through running water while soaping, shaving and teeth brushing. Commercial techniques such as infrared sensor-control cuts water usage down significantly but have failed to enter the home market. How can we make a water-saving faucet that is affordable and attractive for the home market? Low Tech High Tech. Casing for the expensive sensor and plumbing parts are kept to a minimum behind the wall unit. Inspire by traditional Japanese fountains, a natural bamboo spout (Kakei) is brought into the bathroom to simply bring water from the wall to sink. A temperature control ring bridges nature and technology. The blend of mechanism and nature presents a clean and pure design for a faucet for the ecologically-minded home owner. Similarly, a swappable spout of the same form made of color recycled plastic is a beginning of a series. --- INSIDE THE BATHROOM - back to the index page - ------- monthly designboom newsletter ------- ------- ? comments and contact us ? ------- | |||
