based in hoevik, norway, kjell varvin is an artist that produces minimalist sculptural work exploring form
and composition. each installation consists of various common materials like wood and metal arranged
in a seemingly endless array of compositions that varvin calls ‘unstable variables’. these found objects
come together in varvin’s studio, being built and rebuilt over and over. varvin photograph’s the
experiments and sometimes mounts them for exhibitions. as varvin explains, ‘the result of my work
should be understood as proposals, not final statements’. varvin is currently undertaking a two-month
residency at the emily harvey foundation in venice, italy.
