swedish artist axel kårfors has sent us his most recent work ‘stucco boom’, which investigates about the possibilities of the stucco medium as tool for sculpting to evoke a contemporary expression for interior spaces. with its large bulbous shape, ‘stucco boom’  re-elaborates the ionic capital.

‘the development of stucco ornamentation, compared with other forms of ornament in interior design, has been relatively static after modernism. I want to search for a new idiom, beyond classical stucco depicting verdant greenery and bunches of grapes, and beyond modernist stucco that is reduced to only fulfilling such functions as embedding armature or spreading light.‘ – AK
