lang baumann: beautiful steps

‘beautiful steps #5’ by lang baumann, 2010
lang baumann is the multi-disciplinary studio of sabina lang and daniel baumann, who create
architectural installation including the series ‘beautiful steps’. the series features different sets of stairs
in unusual locations and positions. in ‘beautiful steps #4’ a wide spiral stair case is suspended from
the ceiling so that is floats in the air, while ‘beautiful steps #5’ features a stairway that leads out
a window and around the building into another window. in each piece, the stairs are geometric in
design with a simple white finish. their iconic design and unusual placement make each piece feel completely surreal.

what if a child climb onto that thing?
wentao 06.19.10

Love the use of the ladder! Super creative!
Just because you have a ladder it doesn't mean you have to climb it! It has just an estetic feel into it.

oh yeah, safety measures.
this is so much bordering on the practical, but it never reaches.

A registered Architect would never be crazy enough to design any of these brilliant stair forms. Some screw lose idiot would actual use it and hurt themselves and the poor Architect will find herself in the poor house or worse.

I love them!
Absolutely fantastic it stirs the senses and invites debate isn't that one of the purposes of true art?

donna in queens and wentao - are you really so tiny minded that you consider the 'safety aspects' of art works such as these? 'What if a child climb (sic) onto that thing' is one of the most annoyingly stupid comments I think I've ever had the misfortune to read.
