‘reilcs’ is a new series by photographer amir zaki that focuses on elevated lifeguard towers taken along
different beaches in southern california. with the series, zaki photographs these towers much like
portraits of people. each one has its own characteristics and all the photos are void any view of the
ocean or the beach they are designed to watch over. zaki also digitally edited the photos removing
access routes such as ladders or ramps and modified the sky backdrop, often using different skies
photographed on different days. the series was recently exhibited at perry rubenstein gallery in
new york.
