annually, the rice fields of the aamori perfecture town of inakadate, japan are covered
with large scale characters as part of the japanese rice paddy festival. art submissions
from all over japan are accepted. then farmers strategically plant different types of rice
grains to achieve different hues, which results in various artistic images on the farmland.

wow very creative, paint or what materials are used for coloring? whether harmful to rice? when in consumption?
erdiana kartikasari   07.23.10
Very COOL!!!
LMJ   07.23.10
@erdiana - there is no paint involved. it's natural color of differet types of rice

Stunning work.
Hey, erdianna - you really should read the content and descriptions on these posts before leaping into the fray with such inane comments. Thanks lukos for setting her/him straight. I'm amazed at how many of these posts are by people who don't read, they just scroll the photos and load knee-jerk reactions... duh.

Nice and well executed project.
There´s something similar in England, but theirs are work of extraterrestrial entities.

Are these rice plants gene-mod or natural selection in relationship to color? I'd love to see this project highlighting the need for preserving non-monoculture plants.
If this was done in the USA, it might produce a terrifyingly bland 1000 acre image of sameness.
Art=color+diversity, which mimics life in its most natural state of weirdness. Sameness is not beauty.

well done!
