while he typically confines his work to the canvas, australian artist sam songailo expands his geometric
patterned paintings to a large room in his recent work media centre. the piece goes beyond surface
details, integrating light and video. media centre was installed in the cacsa project space in adelaide,
australia. it converted the space into a long canvas covered in orange line art that was illuminated with
black lights forma above. songailo’s paintings are based on geometric patterns created by overlapping
forms that often appear like weaving patterns. his hard edge abstraction and frequent use of fluorescent
colours suggests the future, something he feels is appealing and unsettling.
