neozoon: fur recycling

neozoon: fur recycling

neozoon is a collective of female street artist that create wall art using old fur coats. the installations up cycle
second hand furs cut into silhouettes of animals. the pieces each use a different animal and a different fur each
time. while most of their installations consists of silhouettes they have also recently begun exploring the third
dimension, molding furs into forms that resemble animals such as monkeys. these fur forms are them places
on trees and other obstacles in the urban environment, appearing to be playful zoo animals in the city.

so cool. and somehow taking the fur full circle.
Beth   09.02.10
Ridiculous and very, very kitsch!
Renata Rubim   09.02.10
Weird. I wonder how Peta and other organisations feel about this - is it good or bad? Exploitative or making a valid point?

second hand fur can be used any further for shoes, bags, or chair uppolstries.. wouldn't this be a better recycle?. what a waste just cutting out these shapes and glow them on walls where they will become wet and rotten
fur-there   09.02.10
what a waste? lol It was a waste the moment the animals fur was ripped from its flesh....

LOVE IT!! What a great concept! Creative minds are alive and well in Tassie xx

I'm sorry, but WTF. This is not up-cycling. Have to agree with Fur-there, better used elsewhere... even lining old coats! But installation art? Naff. I appreciate art, I'm a designer, but this just got on my g(c)oat.

Lighten up critics. There's a place for a bit of innovative fun while ambling the sidewalks d;-)

I've been buying old furs from thrift stores for a while and always considered it "recycling" or even just saving the fur from being wasted when I re-wore it. I don't consider this a BETTER solution, just another use for old furs. It's fun and playful and would make my walk around town more enjoyable.
And I like that street art teaches people who normally walk around with metaphorical blinders on, to keep their eyes open for new observations.

wasting the fur. it is not recycling.
andy lam   09.04.10
Duh! The point is, I think, to draw attention to the issue. So surely that over-rides some fuzzy notion of "I'm doing my bit by recycling the odd fur coat now and then" by opening it up to a wider audience.

It sure beats the cigarette butts, old Coke cans, vandalized sidewalks/walls and assorted detritus it competes with on the street.
mitzi 9/6/10   09.06.10
I really like it. It makes you think about animal life in an urban landscape. So many coats end up in a landfill and anyways. I haven't heard anyone complain about the wastefulness of knitted graffiti.

Most animal skin is buried with the animal. So it is recycling something that would just naturally degrade. This is art. Interesting, well done, fun and provocative. Like any art... enjoy it or look at something else. Personally, I think this artist is quite creative and the pieces are well done, original and compelling to examine.

While I do like most of the photos and designs presented in this website, I don't really like the ones in this post.
