che fare? arte povera: the historic years
kunstmuseum liechtenstein, vaduz
may 7 – september 5, 2010
che fare? arte povera: the historic years at the kunstmuseum liechtenstein will close this sunday. the exhibition
chronicles the historic art movement known as arte povera with more than 130 works ranging from painting to
sculpture and installation. arte povera was primarily based in italy with its prime years covering 1967 – 1972.
this exhibition was held to mark the gallery’s 10th anniversary. most of the works included are from the
permanent collection with others borrowed from public and private collections, including some little-known
works from the early years of the movement.
the artists of the arte povera movement sought to bridge the gap between art and life, expanding consciousness
by reducing the distance between the artwork and the spectator. the familiar, ordinary things that we tend to
regard as worthless were to be rediscovered as new, art-worthy materials; previously neglected everyday
items were to be transformed into meaningful works of art.
