takashi murakami at versailles

I am a fan of his work, but using Versailles as an exhibition place for this kind of work feels sinister.
Nevertheless, this is the essence of a col-lect-ion, putting works in a dialogue and in this perspective the result must be very interesting.
A perceptual challenge indeed.

for me it doesn't correspond at all..as if it was a good idea, but when put to realization it didn't function and it didn't bring resault as it should..this means ANY kind of resault..for me, visually both the art of TM and versailles are beyond despute fascinating, but put them together you haven't got anything new...

I toured Europe last year and was constantly amazed by the number of historically/culturally unique sites that get hijacked for use as backdrops for 'modern art' of one form or another.
Why should there be giant 'egg people' littering the grounds of the Coloseum and Forum in Rome, or "architectural" sculptures in the gardens of the Piti Palace in Florence? As for the monstrosities that were in the gardens at Versailles this time last year, they really did spoil the famous view from the Palace of Light down through the gardens. The replacement doesn't look much better.

If these projects truely have intrinsic value they should not need to be displayed at these sites.

Is it really Juxtaposition, lazyness or simply contempt?

I would have thought that the Louvre would have been a more appropriate setting for these "works". The contrast twixt the Versailles setting with these modernistic pieces doesn't do any favours to either d;-)

In the grand history of this building this is but a blip, a millisecond, so people should get over it. Yes I agree its really lazy to carry a show with its setting, but art is for decorate houses too. So enjoy it or not. This work is neither sublime or beautiul, but it is well executed and in propotion to the demensions of the room. Every one is correct, no body cares, shut up
