julien berthier: love love

‘love love’ by julien berthier, 2007 (boat, motor, resin)

‘love love’ is perhaps one of julien berthier’s more unusual sculptural installations. the floating sculpture is made
from a large sailboat that has been modified to appear as if it is capsizing. despite its battered appearance the boat
is fully functional and able to move around thanks to a built-in motor. to create the piece a 6.5 meter yacht was
cut in half and a new keel was added to allow the boat to remain upright in the sinking position. since its
construction berthier has taken the boat out on numerous trips inside harbours like canary wharf in london and
in normandy, france.

lOVE LOVE LOVE! THIS HAS ADDED TO MY ALREADY GREAT MORNING! tHANK YOU!
mAMA oH   11.01.10
Well, it doesn't really look very practical.
DS   11.01.10
castaway on board. It delirious that we are anchored with the idea of faking the events.
mud   11.01.10
Silly novelty, as it can't be very useful, plus the hassle of people always wanting to help 'save' you.
iorr61   11.01.10
Well, I wonder who will be the sucker that will buy this POS?
xpz   11.01.10
I'd be too fucking scared to get on this. I mean the idea is cool and everything. But what if indeed it does sink or tip over?
A. H.   11.02.10
Stupid boat... stupid girl, get a life
Bono   11.02.10
Reminds me of a craft I saw in pictures when I was young. It was about a hundred feet long abd was designed to travel as a ship but one end would sink to study the ocean at vertical depths while the other end would stick out of the water.
morg   11.02.10
Hmmm! I wonder how many emergency call outs this particular work will engender. The name seems inappropriate as well - more like "Eff Up" d;-)
Jetwax   11.02.10
It sleeps four... standing up.
tingles   11.02.10
hey moron, that's not capsizing, it's pitchpoling...
duh   11.02.10
At least he know where he is heading.
ADHDochADD   11.02.10
Pathetic. If you have money and time to design something this extravagant, you could at least attempt to create something useful and fail rather than a piece of crap and succeed.
why did this make the site?   11.02.10
Some people just don't get it.
Dave   11.02.10
stop saying that is not useful or pratical, it's just an art model not a powerful boat
giacomo   11.02.10
Come on people, of course it's not practical--that's exactly the point. Understanding some art, like this, requires a little imagination and creativity
LeeH   11.03.10
you people are something else, It can sink, flip-over, and everything else just like any thing thats made for water. these comments are the same as when the phone came to be, their words were more than likely, "why not just go there in stead of using that stupid thing" Everything HAS a place in use but people who are lazy and miserable will always look at the negative side of it. What some call trash others call it gold. So shut up and leave your inbred remarks to your shrink.
Charlie   11.03.10
The word which comes to my mind: "Idiotic"
Ralph M   11.04.10
It's creative. I would have never thought of this. Kind of funny. I would want to rent it for a day, but wouldn't want to own it. Just to float around and joke with peole who come to save me. But I would be afraid that it will not be stable if wind or storm picks up. Here in Chicago weather can change instantly.
Mike   11.04.10
Haha, I guess he always gets support from other boats whose captains think that he is drowning. I would activate SAR-teams if I see this ...THING... coming in a harbour. Regards!
john   11.04.10
Your next sculpture should be a school bus filled with children that goes off a cliff and explodes.

Or you could do one of a plane in the side of a building.

What do you do when a good citizen tries to help you. Tell them and the coast guard oh its just a sculpture the joke is on you.
Name   11.04.10
people seem to be really angry at this boat. must be a lot of coast guard and navy people here.
OBell   11.05.10
how many times have people stopped or called the coast guard to render aid when they see this piece of crap art?
Whats the purpose to become so cynical every time thy see like this turn the other way.Which is already a big problem and now you give them yet another excuse.
ISEE THIS IS A NEW ART FADE AND IT SUCKS
SproketStevens   11.06.10
very niceeeeeeee baby
MAjid Yadegari   11.06.10
Why is everyone hating on this so bad? Get a sense of humor...
gotohell   11.06.10
he just wants attention
