storefront for art and architecture, new york
on now - april 23, 2011

ohwow and the storefront for art and architecture in new york bring you an installation and performance by
daniel arsham / snarkitecture exploring the architecture of excavation. the storefront's gallery space is currently filled
with a solid volume of EPS architectural foam while arsham has hammers, picks, and chisels to transform this stock
industrial material into a strange, unexpected cavern.

see photos from the daily progress.

arsham is creating and inhabiting the space that he forms for the duration of the month-long installation while the facade
of the storefront will serve as a human ant farm for passersby. it is an experiment of opposites between the precision of an
architectural plan and the looseness of the unknown / primitive and contemporary architecture / the complexity of its digital
origins and the simplicity of its hand made nature.

before this installation, the space hosted a month long exhibition of studies and dialogue between ideas of notational
precision and fabricated looseness / design logic with sculptural intuition. all the materials will be returned to the
manufacturer for recycling at the end of the installation.

a closing reception open to the public will be held on april 23rd, 7pm.

Interesting project, but is time that we start thinking about ecology and use materials that do not harm our environment.
Do you know for how long the particles of styrofom that you just release into the environment will roam the earth?
Forever!
This material will brake into even smaller particles but will never disappear or re-integrate into nature.
This material will get into the bodies of animals and plants.
Let's stop using this type of materials and force companies to produce eco-friendly alternatives.
