following in our tradition of publishing money-based art, we bring you 'currency rings' by bath student sophie kemp.

currencies from around the world are instantly transformed into wearable pieces of art through a series of simple origami folds.
altering both the perception and value of the dollar bill, the design aims to inject interest and experience into a common,
everyday interaction. abstract and graphic in their appearance, the rings - an object with established emotional connotations -
are characterized by the unique prints and colors of each bill, which stem from 12 different countries.

OMG!

Old idea..not a very original thing to post on Designboom...

Beautiful!

I agree with Moneymaker; additionally, there are others applying this idea in a more sophisticated manner: http://crafthaus.ning.com/profile/DeannaOoley

People have been making currency rings for many decades. Its nothing new. I am surprised to find on this blog. Instructions are readily found in children's origami books, and on the web.

I am not negating these wonderful rings...just surprised to find them here on this specific site.

I am a child of the 60,s and I knew drug dealers that passed out these rings made of fifty and one hundred dollar bills for Christmas....what is the big deal ? Surely you jest !

Why the negativity? Every time Designboom posts something obtainable rather than elitist there is an outcry. This has a great narrative to it - whether it has been done before or not seems irrelevant to me. Very rarely do we see new innovations these days... everything has been 'done before'.

the rings are OK, but not very original. Tine De Ruysser and other designers have been working on this idea for quite a long time. See http://www.tinederuysser.com/Site/Welcome.html

This style of currency folding has been around for YEARS. If you want to see some serious currency art, check out Holton Rower's work:
