aleXsandro palombo: bambi is dead

we just received these illustrations by contemporary illustrator, aleXsandro palombo.
entitled 'bambi is dead', the drawings are the latest in a series of recent social attacks against
fashion brand fendi's use of fur.

in a collection of satirical images, disney's beloved bambi character is seen donning the iconic fendi motif
and being hunted by a gun-trotting karl lagerfeld. portrayals of a fairy-tale-esque existence are altered by the
villainous and sometimes bloody scenes which reference both 'the day before' and 'the day after' the slaughter.
executed in a realism surrealism style, the series questions what luxury is, and states in a way, the extreme
measures for which people are willing to obtain it.

this is not funny!!!... put your mother and son in your draw!! this is not art!
NOT is ART   05.20.11
Art is meant to be an expressive form of communication. Why does a drawing have to be a of a mother and son?? Regardless of how 'good' or 'bad' this is... I think your perception of what art is, is horribly distorted.
SP   05.20.11
No, its not funny, its satirical and there is a difference.

There is nothing wrong with art forming part of a social commentry... Especially when it seeks to inform about important subjects.

Really, do we need to use real fur in this day and age?

I think this is great.

It's satirical and funny. Satire's lash stings because it ridicules and we are meant to laugh -- at the deserving of object of derision. Especially like Bambi being rebranded -- and possibly in the original sense, with a hot iron -- by the Fendi logo. This takes down not only Fendi but the contemporary branding mania in which everything is brand, and therefore nothing is.
Mort D'Urban   05.20.11
Seriously? Someone thinks this is not art?! This is amazing! I personally have no problem with Fendi and no opinion on people wearing fur, but the concept is fantastic! It has a message, it's communicative, provocative, and proactive, and it is the epitome of satire! I think it's a beautiful and intelligent example of contemporary art.
JessieB   05.20.11
Eh. Funny, yes. Brilliant contemporary art? Nah. Topically sensational at best. Old tricks. Calm down.
Thumper   05.20.11
It is good, but too obvious. It is an illustration work. Not really a fine work of art, though.
Edy   05.20.11
I wouldn't even consider this an illustration, it's a cartoon, an a poorly executed one at that... too obvious, a child could have made this...
EHV   05.20.11
Yeah, okay, art as social commentary is cool. Hating on Fendi and big brands and the fur trade, that's all fine. Expression is great.

But this was very shoddily executed. Agreed, a child could have made this. Looking at these images does not make me angry at Fendi or feel bad for bambi; they evoke no emotional response, except mild discomfort with the poor craftsmanship.

I don't even understand why he chose bambi. Does Fendi use a lot of deerskin products?
Elise   05.20.11
If you think a child can do it why don't you try it then, see it's not that easy and when you're done post url of your "art"/"cartoon" here and well disquss.
