'potholes' by canadian creatives claudia ficca and davide luciano is a series of photographs
depicting the concave cracks as functional tools in a collection of imaginative tableus in the city.
captured within the backdrop of los angeles, montreal, and new york city, the set explores the urban
flaw as a playground, creating a multitude of uses out of them including a swimming pool, an oil tank
to fry doughnuts, a bath for pedicures, a giant plate of spaghetti, and more.

directly engaging with the street and the city, the highly imaginative series transforms the bad into good,
creating a tongue-in-cheek collection of tableus that are at once contextual and surreal. taking no more
than 10 minutes from start to finish, the photoshoots are done during uninterrupted traffic where there
is a suitable - and sizeable - pothole.

I Love the idea... I just wish some of them were more polished... They could have been made even more surreal and create a bigger impact if the mood in each photo were exaggerated a bit. I wanted to love these, but every one left me saying... huh.

How did they get person to this tiny hole?!
pelis   06.02.11
Love it ! Just as they are, cause they are REAL potholes.
Believe me, I'm in Motreal where these are takin. This is reality !

The food ones are a bit icky (except for the beverage coolers... I love the bbq/street party idea). Otherwise, very inventive and charming. I may just go plant something in the big pothole outside my house. They are exceptionally cavernous this year. It would be fun to see how long it lasts.... maybe all season. That or install a goldfish jumping out of epoxy... or a primordial fish crawling out of the puddle. The possibilities are endless. Would love to see more.

If the postal strike lasts, I suggest you work on mailboxes along similarly inspired lines.

Couldn't disagree with Eric more. Love the gritty realism of these photos. The absurdity of each scenario shines through beautifully. Well done!

I love these, so creative! I also disagree with Eric. Making them more surreal would take away from the stark realism. The camera angles are great, really drawing the observer into the picture.

Big Thumbs Up. It will help bring humour to the inevitable pot holes in the roads of one's life d'-)
Jetwax   06.03.11
She can do my laundry any time :-)
Reg   06.03.11
not bad - the walk of fame almost seems reasonable

you can't really see that it's a pothole in some of them though
octo   06.03.11
would be interesting to see them in context to smaller things than people, and shot at a lower angle

The simpler ones work best: the hand about to be rescued, Alice and the rabbit. The ones where a little info is left out. Most need editing, they're blowsy, melodramatic, and open to criticism in the details. For example: iced pothole and, say, an athlete and a curling iron (or icon from hockey); a pothole full of diamonds and a miner; a pot hole full of pot and a hippie.

haha nice pictures, my favorite pictures are baywatch and fisherman.
