cantoni-crescenti: tunel (tunnel)
'tunel' ('tunnel') installation by rejane cantoni and leonardo crescenti
an interactive kinetic sculpture, 'tunel' ('tunnel') by brazilian artist team cantoni-crescenti (rejane cantoni
and leonardo crescenti) alters its own architecture in response to the weight and motion of visitors.
the sculpture is composed of 92 metal frames that form a tunnel through which visitors may walk.
each portico is independently controlled by a series of springs and cables, but linked within the chain of frames
so that the activity of one component affects its neighbors. the installation as a whole responds to the position
and weight of visitors; upon the entry of an individual, for example, the floorboard may incline by five degrees,
causing the walls of these porticos to rotate correspondingly, which initiates undulatory movement along the length of the piece.
any number of visitors may interact with the space at the same time. seen from its exterior,
the 'tunnel' generates kinectic optical effects for viewers as it moves and as visitors pass through within.
