'ciervos' cutaway leaf art by lorenzo duran

spanish artist lorenzo duran uses leaves as the canvas for his cutaway art. after washing and drying the leaf,
he carefully cuts away segments in a technique akin to those of traditional spanish picado, chinese jianzhi,
german scherenschnitte, or swiss papercutting.

so much cheesy kitsch

No nice, nicey -- mostly beautiful stuff, especially the patterns and designs. And the heartbreaking tree of the same species as the leaf. Ah, the ephemeral nature of true art, the art so rarely made of true nature.

These are lovely, and I am just thinking about how DIFFICULT it must be to make such fine and close-together cuts in a leaf! Try even cutting a straight line in a leaf when it's dried-- it splinters everywhere! A little less I guess when they are stored in a book or something to dry so flat, which he must be doing, but still....! I love the designs but even just for the technical skill this is incredible. I wonder if there is something special in his drying process he does, there must be?

The "cheesy kitsch", lowbrow art movement has taken over the spaces where that high hat stuff used to hang, all stiff & dull & dead to the senses. I'm happy to be delighted and not bored, moved in deeper ways than intellectual.

How can one purchase these pieces of art?

It's awesome.. he could have used lazer cutting as a technique to get neat and sharp cuts.
