marcelo ertorteguy + sara valente: stereotank
'stereotank' by marcelo ertorteguy and sara valente
architect marcelo ertorteguy and sara valente have created 'stereotank' for the zooart festival in cuneo, italy.
made out of extra large water tanks, plastic buckets and nylon cords, this interactive installation invites viewers
to generate sound with its taut, horizontal strings: with a total of eight, they cover an octave of the musical scale
and enable the work to function as an instrument.
acting as resonators to amplify the sound, the plastic tanks and five-gallon buckets are scaled to be inhabitable,
defining an immersive area for play. vibrations of the strings also trigger LED lights, adding a visual component
to the sonic experience. upon the dismantling of 'stereotank', the elements used to construct it can be converted
back to their original forms, used again for their predesignated functions.
