london-based artist slinkachu is known for his 'little people project' which began in 2006, whereby he remodels and paints
miniature train set characters, arranging them in particular scenarios on the street, photographing them and leaving them
for passer-bys to stumble upon. the street art installation / photographic work is intended to encourage city-dwellers
to be more aware of their surroundings.
slinkachu's latest piece is 'house of god (application to the department
of city planning - ref: 13-3470/C)' located in new york city.
the
miniature installation is situated on a hydrant in which the artist has
placed a crescent moon, a well-recognized symbol of the islam faith,
on
the upper domed structure, as a means of referencing a mosque. at the
base of the hydrant, a small sticker with the photo of an entrance
to a muslim place of worship, is accompanied by four figurines -
three men and a woman - dressed in traditional attire.

this installation is a follow-up to slinkachu's 'house of god (application for planning permission – ref: 11/0282-D)'
which was exhibited earlier this year in his solo show 'concrete ocean' at andipa gallery, by which he altered a
pylon to also represent an islamic place of worship.

the dome structure is can also refer to christian-orthodox in russia or the kopten in egypt.
in comparison to the other pictures of the little people, this piece don't comes well thinked.
(gum and street, the stone thrower on a bridge, police and bugs are logical in it's meaning, the mosue and the hydrant not)....or i am on the complete wrong path?
(sry for the english)
Not that this possibility should be a reason not to do it - the contrary.
please continue :-)
about the fire hydrant , come on guys...no meanings, no metaphors and certainly no insults, it is only an analogy to represent a mosque dome.
peace.
slinkachu: worst wurst
perhaps a poke at the popularity of sausage and its consumption as a favorite street food, the work could also be interpreted as a commentary on the general global state of public health and food safety.

isaac cordal: cement bleak
this urban art intervention in london features several metal mesh cooking strainers molded into the shapes of faces. as light filters through the objects, three-dimensional seeming shadows are cast upon the pavement.
jo peel: things change
utilizing footage taken from three weeks of mural painting on the walls of london, the three-minute stop-motion animation 'is an optimistic look at the idea of human impermanence.'
isaac cordal: waiting for climate change
the miniature environmental sculptural installation speaks to what the artist sees as a distressing lack of interest by the public in the futile state of the world's health.
