ursus wehrli: the art of clean up

in his new book 'the art of clean up' swiss comedian and artist ursus wehrli applies his love for organization to everyday life and objects.
food, cars, people, toys and other objects are placed into neat rows according to color, size, shape, and type.

It will be because I am an Industrial Engineer but I really appreciate the art of the clean up. This is the start to any success project and you have shown this concept amazingly good.

seems less like art and more just like someone who likes ruining the finer things in life like playing in the sand and fruit salads.

mmmh, really opposite of art, ie putting things in an organised 'unartistic way', although I do enjoy looking at it. Similiar thing on TED Talks with a person "cleaning up modern art'

It is nice for the first two pictures but not for the third, becouse that pine branch is a natural element, why man must destroy it and then rearrange it with his taste?...

"Similiar thing on TED Talks with a person "cleaning up modern art" - it is the same guy.
FYI 08.30.11
I desire to read it~~

guys ... just think some steps further, please.
the art here is not the outcome, but the process of organising things. of course it's not reasonable to sort a fruit salad (and even the white dots that were on the bowl) or a pine branch. -.- but that makes it fun to look at and it is the essence of the artwork ...

how very swiss! i love it

It is definitely fun to look at. Makes you wonder why we often want to put order in everything, and things are just the way they are. You can look at it the other way around and imagine the order in disorder.

I actually like the fruit salad - by "organizing" the components it challanges you to comprehend thw whole as the sum of the parts (most of the time we only see "the whole").
It could be a great way to present recipes instead of the usual grocery list of ingredients/measures.
I'd like to hear Tufte's take on this one.

Love the sandbox. Find the fruit bowl a bit absurd. And the pine branch disturbing. Organizing's purpose is to embrace order and add value - like saving time or being able to locate or identify "individual" pieces - parts of a whole.
