'sounds of sea' by company

helsinki-based johan olin and aamu song of company have completed the sculptural installation 'sounds of sea' at jellicoe harbor,
commissioned by the city of aukland, new zealand. the nine stainless steel and fuel painted structures have been positioned
along the public space of the waterfront.

the shape of each work is reminiscent of the speaking tubes and air ventilation funnels seen on the ships dotting the sea in front of the collection.
the structures are connected to the water below the docks, delivering the sounds of the sea to harbor goers.
the smallest of the three differentiations of form are connected to others of that size to serve as speaking tubes, or primitive,
tin-can-like telephones for passers by. the middle-sized sculptures deliver sounds from underneath the warf while largest pieces
are intended as public resting space. the designers plan was actualized by hsm steel of new zealand.

But means that installation will be there for a short time? it seems to me more like furniture.
