japan-born and berlin-based artist chiharu shiota has created 'stairway', on display at kunsthalle zu kiel in a solo exhibition.
for the installation, the artist weaves an immense amount of yarn into a cocoon-like environment. the examination of the unconscious
becomes seemingly inevitable as every day objects are reconfigured and obscured from view by shiota's intricately formed veils.
influenced by her tutelage under marina abromovic, shiota's full-scale, room-filling sculptural installations have a performative approach.
