french artist jocelyn grivaud has created the 'poupée barbie' collection to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the famous mattel doll.
each work reinterprets a famous image pulled from photography, paintings by the masters, stills from powerful films as well as ancient
sculpture in form of a barbie standing in as the protagonist. grivaud aimed to rectify the negative representation in modern media barbie
received, and instead, portray the iconic doll in varied representation in order to appreciate concepts of both antiquated and modern beauty.

Hmm... i saw much beautiful examples than this. > The main personages are the famous stars and all well know persons from showbiz. They pose in almost the same cloth and ambiance as in the most known paintings from different times and genres. But what i saw here is a total dystrophy of human proportion. I would say "scarry and creepy" [this doll "barbie" should be banned]

I'm not sure this artist has thought through what she's trying to say, and thus, has missed the clever point that she aaaalmost could have made. And instead just makes the point: 'Look what I can do with my dolls'.

What a shame.

underwhelming. the only one that gets at anything is the reproduction of the magrite. and looking at the others, I'm inclined to believe it's more an accident and a result of magrite's statement than any conscious desire from this person

The makers of Barbie thank you for this art-vertisement.

i like these - very original. however, the mona lisa one is a pre-made mona lisa barbie doll made by mattel.

Its interesting enough that we looked at all the comparisons and then felt the need to comment.
I think the difference in proportions is scary, not just in body but in the face.
Is it just me or did the Marilyn comparison look oddly almost the same....
chelle   02.03.12
the contrast of proportions between the barbie and the real woman in the man ray one is scary.
aydant   02.03.12
I think what make this interesting , is the juxtaposition , that no one else has thought of . That is creativity . And now that the idea has presented itself , of course you could probably do better ,.......... or worse !

it shows that we lost our souls

ridiculous
blah   02.04.12
each one of the original works of art are unique and differ from one another but the barbie art represantations are
awfully so similar to each other! they seem to me as they are dead and as they are repeated copies.
such a horible thing to look at.KIND OF MOULDED CREATURES THEY LOOK LIKE.
