luminous field by luftwerk installed at chicago’s cloud gate

luminous field by luftwerk installed at chicago’s cloud gate
for the first time since its 2004 installation, anish kapoor's reflective cloud gate sculpture has been utilized in a site-specific work.
chicago ensemble luftwerk, the creative vision of petra bachmaier and sean gallero, have transformed the space around the iconic
sculpture into a nocturnal light show using light projectors and choreographed music.

thomas doyle: miniature catastrophic glass-contained memories

thomas doyle: miniature catastrophic glass-contained memories
thomas doyle's meticulously constructed apocalyptic dioramas will be on display at american dreamers: reality and imagination in
contemporary american art at centro di cultura contemporanea strozzina at the palazzo strozzi, in florence, italy from march 9th
to july 15th, 2012.

mark reigelman: manifest destiny!

mark reigelman: manifest destiny!
this small wooden cabin by brooklyn-based artist mark reigelman has been temporarily affixed to the hotel des arts building.
made from 100 year-old reclaimed barn board and weighing in at close to 1,000 pounds, the piece is meant to function as commentary
on the perceived arrogance of westward expansion.

bonsai tree houses by takanori aiba

bonsai tree houses by takanori aiba

working first as a maze illustrator in the 1970s and then as an architect, japanese artist and designer takanori aiba combined his
skills in 2003, culminating in miniature sculptural works of labyrinthine tree houses embedded in bonsai trees and the fragments of
vertical cliffs.

yayoi kusama exhibition at tate modern

yayoi kusama exhibition at tate modern

using an expansive array of mirrors and brightly colorful lights, the infinity mirrored room by octogenarian artist yayoi kusama
opened at tate modern this week and runs through june 5th, 2012.

le creative sweatshop: jelly + light

le creative sweatshop: jelly + light

french artists julien morin and mathieu missiaen of creative sweatshop have created a series of colorful, gelatine-encased lamps.
known for their physically constructed geometric still-lifes using paper and other materials, these non-functional lamps serve primarily
as carefully composed abstract art objects.

starry night interactive animation

starry night interactive animation
greek artist and electrical engineer petros vrellis used openframeworks to create a touch-sensitive, highly interactive reproduction
of vincent van gogh's seminal starry night painting. the faithful interpretation and extreme attention to detail caused numerous
bloggers and internet commenters to suggest that even van gogh himself might approve.

oil paintings by matthew davis

oil paintings by matthew davis
the pointillist technique of artist matthew davis involves pouring entire layers of pool oil paints and allowing them to try for several
days before starting anew on yet another colorful layer. the resulting works appear to retain their liquid properties giving the subjects
an almost impermanent presentation.

crashing porcelain action figures by martin klimas

crashing porcelain action figures by martin klimas

using a customized photographic mechanism german photographer martin klimas captures these exploding porcelain action figures
as they meet their demise at the end of nearly 10 foot drop. the flying shards infuse each photograph with the kinetic energy released
from each drop, adding a surprisingly dramatic quality to a simple figurine.

abraham lincoln tower of books at the ford theatre center for education and leadership

abraham lincoln tower of books at the ford theatre center
to commemorate the opening of the new ford theatre center in washington dc, a towering column was constructed using 15,000 unique
titles written about u.s. president abraham lincoln.

This is so beautiful. I find a sense of wonderment and peace come over me when I visit this sight. I find myself looking at everything, because the artists are so in touch with themselves and what they are trying to represent.
