that's some really disturbed stuff. they actually call it art?
g   02.28.12
So what is art mister?
Bonobo   02.28.12
art is supposed to be disturbing.
Fabio   02.28.12
if it\'s not disturbing it\'s not art but decoration
diego   02.28.12
brilliant. this message needs to be said.
katie keller   02.28.12
I would call it illustrative art and I would love to know what else is going on in the mind of Alex Gross. Truly wild images.

Hipster/Indie art = Juxtaposing stuff together in wild, weird ways...and yet still not managing to say anything. It\'s just all shock and color. What a waste... Maybe they should start a magazine that captures all of this kind of meaningless art in one zine; they could call it Juxtapose or something....oh......wait....

The visual commentary on consumerism and fame in the first few aren't bad, but then it just gets...bad....
Waste   02.29.12
The fact that you (waste) think this is art is "meaningless" because "it's not saying anything", speaks very poorly of you.
Hanna   02.29.12
I\'m just wondering, if this is \'hipster/indie\' art, are there not a positive aspects to these specific labels? Wouldn\'t it also mean that the artist is also creating art based on his own internal compass and counter-culture ideals? Yes, the artist is asking his audience to question modern consumerism through the juxtaposition of reptiles and sheep with the human form-- one animal western society often deems as evil and the other being symbolic of blind complicity. I think the work he seems to have a message. The fact that this collection is \'all shock and color\' actually helps to draw in the attention of the media-over-saturated, ritalin-prescribed generation, which I would assume is the artist\'s target audience...

I don\'t think art is formed only by something which may be deemed as disturbing to not be viewed as decoration. However, when exploring concepts which include the unstable global economy and continued societal obsession with the accumulation of objects perpetuated by pop-culture, it might be okay that the artist\'s vision is portrayed in a dark or disturbing way...
Just Wondering   02.29.12
incredible message on mass media influences.. seeping into all cultures. a woman breast feding while she eats a hotdog that is so full off over processed chemicals.. all the placement ads we are forced to take in inour daily lives.... the manipulation of the mind... So fucken powerful!
deborah jackman   03.04.12
Brilliant stuff!
@waste: there is no such thing as \'meaningless art\'.
