french street artist JR and the wrinkles of the city project

the newest edition to the wrinkles in the city campaign by JR

french street artist JR has developed the campaign 'wrinkles of the city' pasted in los angeles, california, USA. JR first photographs
older individuals from the city taken at range of 28 millimeters, creating gigantic prints of these images which are then wheat-pasted
on to building exteriors in los angeles county.
beginning early in 2012, the artist has introduced to the city several large-scale public installations picturing individuals from the area,
celebrating their aged faces and stories. JR plans to show 20 separate pieces through out the sprawling metropolis. the intentionally apolitical
street artist leaves space for public interpretation-- he presents a community within the massive, modern city and enables an encounter between
the subject and observer, grounding the passerby in the humanity and history of this stereotypically unforgiving city.

the first pieces of 'wrinkles of the city' were revealed. the campaign moved from this region
to shanghai in 2010, but was met by opposition from public officials. the campaign, in its entirety, gives a voice to the older residents
of cartajenas, shanghai and los angeles as they speak to the history of the metropolitan regions and rich story of their own lives.
