with a team of friends, chinese artist zhu kefeng has spent ten years constructing giant robots out of scrap metal and recycled steel and iron, and 600 of their creations are now publicly viewable in the ‘mr. iron robot’* sculpture park officially opened on march 20th, 2012 in an old abandoned factory.

originally using scrap automobile parts to reconstruct car models, zhu began creating more original and transformers-influenced assemblages over the past several years. in 2010, zhu sold his apartment in shanghai and put the money from the sale and his own art commissions towards opening ‘mr. iron robot’ in jiaxing city. 600 supersize robots are on display in indoor spaces and outdoor plazas throughout the 225-hectare (0.9 sq. mi) park. among the replicas of cartoon favourites like optimus prime and megatron is a robot theme gallery that showcases the history of civilization from the stone age to the 21st century.

*EDITOR’S NOTE: at time of writing it is unclear whether the name is offically ‘mr. iron robert’ or ‘mr. iron robot’.
