while self-taught artist nathalie boutté is neither a photographer, sculptor, nor a painter, her collages are a combination of all of these elements. the french artist’s body of work is derived from both her knowledge of paper and the volume of this particular medium. firstly, boutté cuts and pastes together long narrow strips of paper which she assembles one by one, thus creating a feathered, flowing effect for each piece. to change the coloring of a work, boutté uses greys and brighter shades in combination with tracing paper. for additional shading effect, the artist often employes indian ink or gold sheets combined with the paper in order to develop a more expansive color palate.
