the pink and blue project

'yerim and her things' 2005
korean artist jeongmee yoon's 'pink and blue project' was inspired by her daughter. she would only wear pink and
buy pink toys. she found this to be a common theme in korea, the us and around the world. when photographing
girl's in their world of pink, she realized that boys shared the same phenomenon except in a different hue: blue.
the objects are arranged in the child's room and photographed in a square format. jeongmee yoon was born in
seoul and lives in new york.

Don't make judgments based on pictures, because it just shows how ignorant you are.

I mean where is the creativity of those parents who buy one and the same color over and over again.
You have no idea how much that phrase infuriates me. Just because something doesn't f****g appeal to you doesn't mean it loses its value as art. respect the work the artist put into this.
Still, it is fairly sad that we still live in this pink/blue dichotomy.
and while they undoubtedly have a lot of toys and crap, most kids do. when we redid my son's room and had to move all of his toys out to paint i was completely shocked by how much crap he had--not big/expensive stuff, but...crap. what i realized was that, like me, he saves everything. broken cars, broken toys, toys from fast food places and restaurants, shells, rocks, sticks, stickers, toys that he's had since he was a baby...it's just something kids do.
i guess i just don't understand why being a kid has to have so many labels put on it. putting an adult perspective on childhood is what causes problems, not buying pink toys for your daughter.
kwang mo: ball
