'hyper' series by denis darzacq

paris based photographer denis darzacq recently completed a new series of photographs entitled ‘hyper’.
the series explores ‘the place of the individual in society’ a common theme in his work. the series may seem
surreal and clearly a product of photoshop, however none of the works have been digitally manipulated.
instead, darzacq recruited young dancers and sportsmen to pose for the series using empty supermarkets
as a backdrop.

whooooooooa!
prestonnn   06.21.08
Excellent pics!!! The models must be mad to break themselves up like that, wspecially the guy who is gonna face-plant. End result well worth it though.
Flexi   06.21.08
Yes, you're so clever to discover a technique Philippe Halsman covered 50+ years ago.
bob the mob   06.21.08
I agree with Bob the mob, I'm over the laziness of contemporary designers and artists who regurgitate concepts from the past and proclaim innovation..
Werner   06.21.08
Bob and Werner, lets see you do something that looks that good.

What's that? You can't? That's what I thought. Stop being a hater and shut your mouth. Jealous punks.
Bryan   06.21.08
Here's the difference-a lay person has never heard of Phillipe Halsman and frankly doesn't give a shit about him. Art has imitated Art hroughout the ages. Get off your high horse Bob and Weener. You're boring
duff the muff   06.22.08
Bryan: Whether you agree with the criticism or not, saying someone can't have a valid opinion because they can't produce a better version of something is ludicrous. You don't have to be able to sing to tell if someone's a good singer, just like you don't have to be a photographer to say that someone is imitating another artist.

And when you use words like "hater" in a grown up discussion, you're just embarrassing yourself. Punk.
Scarlett   06.22.08
I think you're all a bunch of queers. I quite like this.
I'm not actually serious, but you're al losers anyways   06.22.08
you guys take yourselves too seriously. and this photography isnt so great. and to the guy who said that the models made a sacrifice... you're stupid
smokemoreweed   06.22.08
Why can't anyone just look at these and appreciate the artistic value? I think they're amazing, innovative or not.
Abigail Winters - urbanvamp.wordpress.com   06.22.08
oh look a bunch of hipsters floating

impressive work, friend!!
LOL?   06.22.08
Just because the photographer used a very popular technique does not take away from the artistic value of these pictures. If you remember from the description this series "explores ‘the place of the individual in society’" and it does a pretty damn good job of capturing that theme. Each person is breaking free from their mundane environments.
Liam   06.22.08
I'd like it better if it didn't attempt to make some silly, grander commentary of "the place of the individual in society" -- which reduces the work to more of the same pseudo-intellectual crap we see all the time.

If you want to make a social statement-- write an essay.

Why can't artists just let the work stand on its own rather than make failed efforts at social commentary?

The work is nice.

Barnegat Blummis is the most innovative photographer who never posted a picture on the net.

Popo: Because that's not art, that's entertainment. Entertainment is fine in and of itself, but it's about as shallow and intellectually stimulating as an episode of Friends.
darren   06.23.08
wow. just like high school but now your trying to make money. sad but unfortunately some douche will think it's brilliant. Take some time and make something worthwhile and stop the bullshit.
Dave Miss   06.23.08
whatever.

everyone's an "artist", yet no one knows what art is.

yawn. next...
interrobang   06.23.08
Comments on this site are meant for constructive criticism, not for slamming other artist's work. Don't like it? Move on and keep your mouth shut, or make suggestions for improvement. Don't sit there and insult it.
The majority of art imitates another form of art, but each is still unique in it's own way.
Learn to appreciate that.
tranquilfade   06.24.08
When did art step out of being entertaining? Art is all about the subjective perception of others, and appreciating how we all see things differently. I love this work, and I hope that it jump starts you into finding that uniqueness within. Keep up the good work, don't stop experimenting.
GoddessGoldberry   06.24.08
I'm not so sold on the whole "place of the individual in society" thing, but these are fun, playful images. Who cares if it's been done before? The guy's clearly not going to make any dent in the world of art, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the pictures.
kbot   06.24.08

you guys are going way off-topic.
I like the pictures I think they are pretty damn cool.

Happy now I think all of you should stop and the guy who posted this is thinking WHY DID I BOTHER ALLOWING MORONS TO ARGUE ON THE INTERNET.

Not that I'm calling you morons. I'm saying posting arguments here is moronic, go find a forum to bicker on people

i think of things all the time...mechanical most of the time only to find out someone else had thought of it 20 years ago. by the sounds of it. if i where to post the ideas on my blog some of you would call me a moron for taking take someones idea and making it mine or not thinking of it first. in my mind anything i think of on my own is my idea and i cant very well think of something first if someone thought of it before i was born. i would hope for a "nice idea" not a "you're not the first one dummy" learn to show respect to people. disrespect is so pointless.

as for the pictures...very cool. there is always a lot to look at when it is a picture of something that only takes a second to start and finish. you miss a lot in realtime.
Eric   06.28.08
as captures of a moment in time, they are what they are. innovative? no. interesting? yes. technically good? probably not.
karfeef   06.29.08
You all should make a very serious attempt at getting laid if you have that much time to argue on the level of "innovation" in someone's work then you are not getting nearly enough sex!

The shots are great nice work to the one behind the lens.
*quick note Japanese anime porn does not constitute sex
whocares   06.29.08

signaturex   06.29.08
If you liked the work, great ( I did ), If you didn't, great. We all have options on things... art, religion, politics and whether your mom has good looking kids or not. Innovation is blurred with evolution. What is wrong with evolution?

Then I think perhaps, Buckminster, you might want to find a different discussion board the purpose of which isn't to quibble about photography.
