the international dance party
the international dance party

montreal video artist adad hannah and berlin machine artist niklas roy teamed up with
vancouver sound artist david cheong (aka baddd spellah) to create what they call
‘the international dance party’. the odd looking piece of interactive art is literally a
‘party in a box’. disguised inside the box is a sophisticated machinery which includes
a radar, 600 watt soundsystem, lasers, light and other special effects like a fog machine.
most importantly the radar acts to detect dancing in front of the machine, coming to life
when the dancing begins. the audience is in control of the machine, the lighting,
effects and music all respond to the crowds dancing and activity. if people stop dancing
or there are too few dancers, the ‘international dance party’ stops and shuts down.
only time will tell if the world’s gallery-goers are willing to ‘shake their groove thing’
in the name of art.
