'frozen' sound art exhibition
'frozen' sound art exhibition

‘frozen’ exhibition overview
last week amsterdam was the site of the electronic music festival ‘5 days off’. running from
july 2nd to 8th, the festival featured a number of music and art related events. ‘frozen’ is
one such exhibit, featuring sculptures and print art developed using sound. the exhibit space
is outfitted with a sound system allowing visitors to hear music, while the gallery’s walls and
stands feature ‘frozen’ versions of the same music translated into print and 3-d forms.
these artworks use audio analysis and custom software processes to extract meaningful
data from the sound signal, creating a mapping between audio and other media.
frozen is the brainchild of norwegian artist and curator marius watz who is also an active
member of the generator.x project. the works on show include watz’ digital prints using
audio input and 'audio sculptures' by andreas nicolas fischer & benjamin maus,
leander herzog, and daniel widrig & shajay booshan. these sculptures are based on
audioworks by freiband, frans de waard, and alexander rishaug.the exhibit will continue
running until july 26th and all the works can be seen in their flickr gallery.

Even seen on the Web and not at the exhibition hall even the conception is the beautiful progeny of Fantasia and the execution is dazzling beyond dazzling -- a new frontier of spiral brilliance.
