recreating children's drawing by yeondoo jung

recreating children's drawing by yeondoo jung

'the magician turned the wale into a flower', 2004

the artwork of children is fascinating on many levels. however their uninhibited imagination is
not always very true to reality. so when korean artist yeondoo jung set out to turn the drawing's
of 5-7 year old children into reality, some interesting environments were sure to arise. after he
collected over 1,000 drawings, a select few were selected and turned into reality through a
series of photo shoots titled 'wonderland'. the results are just as fascinating as the original
drawings.

The original children's art is better. They're sublime creativity cannot be matched.
jackieww   12.14.09
I like the childrens drawings far better.
Paul   12.22.09
lucky the kid wasn't me. If it was, then it'll cost at least US billion to remake ;P
ozroby   12.23.09
creative..!
joanne   12.24.09
nice however
he took a bit too much freedom imo
I know the children suck at stuff like composition
but if a kid draws 2 houses there should be 2 houses
if it draws a window there should be a window.
and how a green forrest (or grass) ends up as a city skyline is beyond me.

coooool!!!!
laura   01.07.10
Yay! Very cool.
Cris Melo   01.09.10
I find these interesting. It is especially nice how in 'afternoon nap' and 'little red riding hood' depth was almost completely lost, which makes it tie into the child's ability to represent depth and show perspective.

Very clever idea all in all.
Ella   01.10.10
I think "afternoon nap" is the best. I disagree that 'children suck at composition'.
ps   01.12.10
omg
maki no masri   01.23.10
i wasn't really a fan of "afternoon nap" (the recreated version). the child didn't mean for the tables to be knocked over.. she was just showing that they had 4 legs.
taylor   01.27.10
This is really amazing! Kids do have a lot of imagination, cant wait to my baby starts drawing and see the great things she draws!

if you look closely they are not all true to the children drawings. If you are showing the drawing with the art work they need to sink up perfectly.
Jon Mulhern   02.17.10
Great Work, who knew a fascinating drawing by a child could turn out to be beautiful and creative photography.
Albert E. Harris III   02.18.10
I want to see more of this!

this is so interesting. kids do capture a lot.
cbc   02.25.10
pretty crap in my opinion to be honest. I think the kid's drawings are better than the pictures. Terrible way of capturing the real messages of the drawings

how come all the other pics seem to match the childrens’ drawings well, but not the first one? the poor kid who drew that must’ve been pretty disappointed lol

Freedom of expression in the drawings of children and adolescents invites us to see society and everyday life in new ways. Freedom both to confuse and cross the border between fantasy and reality produces new values and .The artists who lived in Asia in the 1990s and embraced the values of early globalization faced with sudden social and economic changes that made them suspicious of the systems of the past and traditional identities. They ended up basing their understanding of personal experience and interaction, and proposes a series of new values to society. Jung is the one who relishes the diversity of contemporary life. Western ideas and differential evolution of globalization and our growing intimacy with the rest of the world make us reconsider our own borders, social customs, and stories. They also invite us to break with tradition and preconceptions about gender and race. Jung's work clearly reflects these changes.
