ekant: an exhibition of steel sculptures by vishal k. dar
at: the stainless gallery, new delhi, india
from: august 28th – september 20th

trained primarily as an architect, through his work vishal k. dar felt compelled to make his move into the domain of art. marrying his original love of architecture with art, dar blurs the boundaries of his practiced disciplines. working in metal, his recent projects have been focused solely on sculpting with stainless steel which is a material that is hard to manipulate, challenging him as a sculptor. steel is often considered to be a sleek, modern material, often included in architectural construction for its strength and beauty. used by the architectural likes of mies van der rohe, walter gropius and frank lloyd wright, dar too has also chosen to use it creating a series of five ‘archi-sculptures’. the highly architectural sculptures exude a sense of elegance opposing the cold, hard steel they are made from.
